Tana Poppino's Road Report
Nov. 19, 2010 - It's definately countdown time to the WNFR. Since our prep time was shortened, and our performance at Dallas was not yet up to par, I've been taking in jackpots as often as I can this week. We drove in the blistering rain to Carthage Wednesday night. Amigo performed well. He may be 15, but he's still got it. He won the jackpot, but unfortunately Goose and I still need to work on our timing and cues. Thursday we went to Ochelata. I got a couple of exhibitions in to work on body positioning. It seemed to help. I knocked first barrel down, but was pleased with his second barrel. Saturday we will go to Checotah and try again. Thanks to everyone for their well wishes for the Finals, hopefully we will have lots to cheer about!

WPRA barrel racer and Prairie Circuit Director Tana Poppino's promotional programs to reach out to current and future rodeo fans continue to expand.
Talkin with Tana, a weekly radio interview show debuted August 10 on Spur Radio www.spurradio.com. The once-a-week program which airs at 1:00 p.m. CST will follow Poppino as she competes at rodeos around the country with a goal of reaching the Wrangler National Finals this winter for the third time in her career. Her discussions with program host Ken Fisbeck of Spur Radio will not only focus on her "in the arena" performance but on the realities of life as a contestant on the professional rodeo circuit and how she combines the challenges of being a contestant, a wife and a mother at the same time. Each program will be archived on Spur Radio's web site. The program is co-produced by Donnell Rodeo Promotions.
Girl Scouts USA has also endorsed Rodeo 101, a program Poppino conducted last year at the American Royal Rodeo in Kansas City, as being an appropriate program for Girl Scouts nationally.
In Kansas City, Poppino conducted a "Rodeo 101" course for a large number of Girl Scouts attending the rodeo. Her presentation not only included an explanation of the sport of rodeo but tied the sport back to the country's agricultural roots. Girl Scouts USA is not sponsoring the program but after reviewing the Kansas City event has agreed to communicate to Girl Scout Councils and rodeo committees that the program is acceptable for Girl Scout participation. It also matches the new branding initiative of the Girl Scouts which includes introducing the girls to women who have been successful in many different careers. In Poppino's case she has had two careers - one as a marketing executive and now as a rodeo contestant.
"We believe this is an attractive program for rodeos and Girl Scout Councils
alike," said Mike Donnell of Donnell Rodeo Promotions whose firm is contacting rodeo committees, Girl Scout Councils and potential sponsors on behalf of the program. "It matches the career education goal of the Girl Scouts and it brings future fans to rodeos."
Rodeo Committees, Girl Scout Councils and potential sponsors can learn more about Poppino's radio program and Rodeo 101 by contacting Donnell at 719-543-6458 www.rodeopromotions.com.
